Royal Thimphu College is the first private college in Bhutan. It is tucked in the forest in Ngabiphu in the capital, Thimphu. It was inaugurated by Her Majesty, Ashi Kezang Choden Wangchuck on July 18, 2009. It is affiliated to the Royal University of Bhutan.
In 2016 the college became the first institution in Bhutan to be awarded A+ by the Bhutan Accreditation Council (BAC). The institution provides undergraduate degrees in various fields such as Business, Nursing and Midwifery, Environmental Management, English language and literature, Development Economics, Political Science and Sociology, History and Dzongkha, Anthropology and Mass Communications. The College also provides scholarships to students that score well.
The institution has developed a partnership with a number of international partnerships. Students can avail a year long exchange programmed through the university to institution in the US and Europe.
